This Body è una delle quattro tracce incluse nel Black EP del progetto Color Spectrum. Il Black EP rappresenta la parte elettronica, oscura e "pessimistica" dei nove EP, dato che ad ogni colore corrisponderà un indirizzo musicale differente.

Fair to Midland - Arrows & Anchors (2011)

Il nuovo album dei Fair to Midland Arrows & Anchors è previsto per il 12 luglio. Il lavoro segna l'atteso ritorno dopo Fables from a Mayfly: What I Tell You Three Times is True (2007), l'opera che ha rivelato il gruppo in una commistione di alternative, progressive e metal.
La band ha intanto realizzato il singolo Musical Chair che per ora è acquistabile solo nello store americano di iTunes.

Big Big Train - Goodbye to the Age of Steam (2011 reissue)

I Big Big Train hanno pubblicato la ristampa del loro album d'esordio datato 1994 Goodbye to the Age of Steam. Questa nuova ristampa, oltre ad essere stata completamente remixata e rimasterizzata dai nastri originali, contiene tre bonus track. Si conclude così l'opera di revisione dei vecchi album della band iniziata nel 2008 con English Boy Wonders, uno dei capolavori del neo-prog moderno.

Goodbye to the Age of Steam è un ottimo album da consigliare ai fan di Genesis e Jadis anche se racchiude in sè già le caratteristiche melodiche tenui e romantiche tipiche dei Big Big Train.

Emanuel and the Fear

Conosco questa band da un po’ di tempo ma non ho avuto mai il tempo di aggiungerla al blog. Ora che sono riuscito ad ascoltare con più calma il loro album Listen (2010) è giunto il momento di segnalarla anche qui.

Gli Emanuel and the Fear più che una band sono una specie di collettivo di 11 elementi con tanto di fiati e archi e fanno una specie di art pop rock molto, molto orchestrale. Tra il folk rurale di Sufjan Stevens e le tirate spettacolari della Dave Matthews Band vengono applicati gli arrangiamenti a grande respiro dei Polyphonic Spree senza farsi mancare un tocco di elettronica.



Il gruppo oltre a questo album ha all’attivo un omonimo EP e tra poco ne pubblicherà un altro dal titolo Hands che è anticipato dal brano Vampires che potete ascoltare di seguito.

Damn Fine Coffee - Slave to the Grid (2011)

John Buzby, dopo aver militato come batterista nei Finneus Gauge (band fondata con il fratello Chris degli Echolyn) e l'esperienza da leader con i Land of Chocolate (attualmente in pausa), si è messo a comporre dei brani complessi con piano e tastiere, molto strutturati e pieni di polifonie vocali in uno spirito vicino alla sua band precedente, tra fusion e progressive rock, ma molto più convincente.

Il progetto, denominato Damn Fine Coffee, si completa con Wes Hare alla batteria e Jay Rehm al basso, dando al primo album Slave to the Grid un suono essenziale e armonico, ma necessariamente elaborato. Lo potete ascoltare qui.

22 - Plastik EP (2011)

Il gruppo norvegese 22 - del quale ho già parlato qui e qui - ha firmato un contratto con l'etichetta inglese Best Before Records per distribuire l'album d'esordio FLUX anche fuori dai confini norvegesi. La pubblicazione verrà preceduta dal Plastik EP in uscita il 4 luglio ed è già pre-ordinabile a questo indirizzo.

Knifeworld - Dear Lord, No Deal EP (2011)

Il nuovo ep dei Knifeworld (ovvero Kavus Torabi) già autori dello strepitoso Buried Alone: Tales of Crushing Defeat, uscirà il 4 luglio esclusivamente sotto forma di download digitale sul sito The Genepool, mentre per l'album si dovrà attendere l'anno prossimo.

Knifeworld will release the Dear Lord, No Deal EP on the fire-cracking fourth of July. It will be available exclusively as a digital download.
Containing three new songs Dear Lord, No Deal will be the first release to feature the whole Knifeworld band of Kavus Torabi, Khyam Allami, Melanie Woods, Emmett Elvin, Chloe Herrington and Craig Fortnam.
If merely the news that this wonderful recording will be soon available isn’t enough perhaps a pithy description of each song will encourage a semblance of excitement in your household.

Pilot Her: A breakneck, shit-storm of heartbroken disappointment. A punk-rocking, bittersweet kick in the pineal gland of semi-consciousness. A love-song to music wrapped up in palm muted meltdown of malcontent. A riddle. Farfisa organ, Rhodes, saxophones and bassoons collide with turbo charged drums, beautifully urgent, snaky bass and angry guitars. Dreams and misdeeds thrown skyward to the lake. 40 years of sweet, sweet music condensed into 2 minutes and 14 seconds of verdant lamentation. Make every play of this sickeningly wondrous beacon sparkle with all the personal pain and anguish you can muster. Wake up from a childhood idyll to find yourself on a fast track to ‘the reaper’. The carriage of your train is dank, the facilities are, at best, poor. The strangers around you seem little interested in conversation. Unsurprisingly the only one who will talk to you is a nuisance. HMS Washout: This nautical epic will cut through the waves of your half imagined shipwreck. A beautiful 14 minuter, a psychedelic tour de force if you will, HMS Washout ought to send every good man, woman and child among us to Davy Jones’ locker. It will drown you, it will capsize you, it will give you the impression of hoisting the mainsail only to reveal the Jolly Roger. A Jolly Roger made out of fragments of infinity, shards of eternity, jewels of enlightenment. By God though, this one will go the distance. From dry land to ten thousand leagues down this windswept paeon to impossible love will scrub your deck. With cutlass and with scurvy HMS Washout will send you seaworthy.
