Vennart - Dick Privilege (single) (2020)

Il nuovo singolo inedito di Mike Vennart, Dick Privilege, viene pubblicato simbolicamente oggi, allo scoccare effettivo della Brexit, in quanto come canzone è forse la più personale che abbia mai realizzato in termini politici e ideologici. Come lui stesso ci fa sapere il pezzo è stato ispirato ad un fatto accadutogli (e chi segue il suo account Twitter sa di cosa parliamo) dopo avere espresso dei pareri contro l'estrema destra inglese. Dick Privilege prende infatti forma come una delle cose più violente e aggressive scritte da Mike, un vero e proprio sfogo in termini musicali.

Come potete immaginare la reazione verso la sua persona è stata un po' simile a ciò che accade a chi contesta quella mina vagante che è il nostro ex ministro dell'interno e cioè l'equivalente di una "gogna social" (per utilizzare un garbato eufemismo). Ad ogni modo vi lascio al resoconto dello stesso Vennart per capire la bassezza a cui la gente può arrivare:

Here’s the story of why and how this had to happen. ‘A while back I found myself incurring the wrath of the Far Right, after I’d clumsily whacked their squalid little hive. Having encountered their diminutive Queen Bee and, being of not-entirely-sound mind, I called him a Nazi Prick to his face, and he proceeded to give me more press than I’d ever had in my life. Unfortunately what came with that was thousands of threats of physical and sexual violence - via social media - to my wife and my mother, and death threats to myself. They threatened to burn down my house. They continued in earnest on Christmas Day and through into the New Year. They sent me pictures of my son and told me they were coming. All because I called a man - a man they’d never met - a Nazi.

The experience of being hunted by white supremacists was, for me, exciting and hilarious. They bark hard, but they don’t bite. Well, I guess I’m not such a useful idiot. I’m not actually worth murdering. So it was great fun for me. Less so for my then-6 year old son, who wept with terror as the police fire-proofed our house the day before Christmas Eve.

All of this is, obviously, symptomatic of a darker force at work. White, insufficiently-endowed men (and it IS men) following the money, fucking everything and everyone, while we suck on Love Island and argue about whether a pop-star is cancelled or not.

This instilled in me a fervent rage and has inspired a body of work that will be released as soon as the stars align. Dick Privilege (and it’s B-side, Rat Catch) is the first burst of this unfettered energy, and is released on 31st January 2020 to commemorate the UK’s exit from the European Union, an event which can only be described as a catastrophic victory for the Far Right.’ The single will be available digitally and on 7” coloured vinyl exclusively from www.vennart.com.
